Thermal Imaging Breakthrough

MIRICLE 110K shutterless infrared thermal imaging camera with XTi technology

Thermoteknix has raised the bar to new heights in launching the world’s first Alpha Silicon based Focal Plane Array thermal imaging camera with shutterless XTi technology. The MIRICLE® 110KS with XTi is an ultra-compact uncooled (unstabilized) solid-state high resolution infrared camera delivering ‘Never Blind™’ thermal imaging. The camera is designed without a shutter or any moving parts to interrupt vision at critical moments and is unaffected by shock or vibration.

Continuous high resolution thermal imaging from the very instant the camera is switched on with no image deterioration with time or ambient temperature change. The removal of the shutter and associated motor, gears and control mean that MIRICLE® cameras with XTi™ technology are also smaller, lighter and lower power consuming, a major benefit to all portable and size critical applications.

MIRICLE 307K 640 x 480 VGA Resolution Infrared Camera

Thermoteknix announce its latest innovation in thermal/infrared imaging which will be launched at the SPIE Defense & Security Symposium in Orlando, Florida - April 19th, 2006. The MIRICLE® 307K Miniature Infrared Camera is expected to be the most exciting infrared camera of the year incorporating an uncooled alpha-Silicon long wave microbolometer detector packaged in a 1.5inch electronics cube. This breakthrough technology is aimed at both commercial infrared and military infrared applications where its ultra-compact size and rugged, environmentally protected housing are ideal for day and night infrared surveillance and infrared security systems.

The MIRICLE 307K Miniature Infrared Camera joins the Thermoteknix MIRICLE 110K family of uncooled miniature thermal imaging cameras where its 640 x 480, 307,200 pixel detector with 25 micron pitch extend the scope, range and applications of today’s fast growing security and surveillance markets. Offering greater detection at further distances and with smaller and lower cost optics, the MIRICLE 307K Miniature Infrared Camera produces outstanding infrared imagery in total darkness, unaffected by smoke or fog. Its fourfold increase in pixel power over the industry standard 320 x 240 detector based infrared cameras produces spectacular quality imaging.

QinetiQ Unmaned Aerial Vehice

QinetiQ’s Zephyr High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) solar powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has achieved its longest flight to date during a set of flight trials at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

The surveillance aircraft is manned with numerous sensors and Qinetiq selected Thermoteknix’ MIRICLE® 110K high performance miniature infrared camera to collect thermal imagery. The MIRICLE® 110K video output now offers 384 x 288 resolution in NTSC and RS170 formats as well as in PAL and CCIR. This gives 44% more pixels when compared to 320 x 240 pixel cameras resulting in a wider field of view for the same focal length lens, or a smaller focal length lens to match the FOV. This leads to smaller and lighter optics and improved FOV to weight ratio, ideal for portable and UAV applications.

Thermoteknix Systems - 'Born to Ride'

Infrared Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson have chosen Thermoteknix VisIR® Ti 200 as their preferred infrared camera supplier.

Harley Davidson Japan have taken delivery of their Thermoteknix VisIR Ti200 thermal imaging camera which has been bought as part of their R & D engineering commitment to Harley Davidson motorcycle development. The VisIR® camera is a radiometric thermal imaging camera with a large established customer base for Predictive Maintenance and R&D purposes.

One purpose for the infrared camera is to evaluate ‘Before and After’ effects on riders' hands and faces when riding with and without a new innovative design of windshield fitted to the Harley. The VisIR® camera will also be used for laboratory testing and ongoing research in Harley engine performance.

Thermoteknix’ MIRIC® TB2-30 miniature infrared camera took part in another successful ‘hit to kill’ missile defense test on June 22nd, off the island of Kauai, Hawaii.

A standard Missile 3 was launched from the Aegis cruiser USS Shiloh to intercept a separating target with an integrated multi-purpose sensor payload developed in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). This was designed to collect video and infrared imagery of the target’s boost and post-boost phases of flight; video coverage of the target’s re-entry separation; and spectral, radiometric and video coverage of the intercept.

A paper written by the team of the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory on the test was given at the SPIE Thermosense Conference in Orlando, April 2006 and can be downloaded here.

Cheever Racing Car

In 2005, Thermoteknix became technology partners and official sponsors of the prestigious Cheever Racing IndyCar Series team alongside Cisco Systems.

Cheever Racing have installed state-of-the-art Thermoteknix infrared cameras on their race cars to monitor tyre temperature performance which will gain vital seconds over the competition.

The infrared cameras and technology, developed by Thermoteknix, and also being used in Formula 1, employs highly ruggedised miniature infrared cameras relaying data wirelessly to the pit crew who use the information to make adjustments to optimise race car performance. By remotely monitoring the tyre temperatures and heat distribution which vary dramatically around the circuit, Cheever can adjust the car set up to optimize performance, tyre wear and plan race strategy.
